Rigorous Hiring Process

We believe that a rigorous hiring process and in-depth review and analysis of a candidate’s skill at teaching and learning brings the greatest benefit to our scholars.  Our students’ academic futures demand that we are highly selective in our hiring process.  Mission-oriented, results-oriented, energetic, flexible, curious, and positive candidates compose the one percent of applicants who are hired at Septima Clark.  While the specific timeline of the hiring process varies by person, the information below provides an overview of the hiring process.
Change the World.  Educate Boys.
Step 1 – Resume and Transcript submission
Submit the below listed items electronically to educate@scpcs.org.
  1. Current professional resume.
  2. Unofficial copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
  3. A written analysis of a current pedagogical issue related to your instructional content area. (For example, if you are a preschool teacher analyze a current academic issue in the field of early childhood education).
Septima Clark recruitment team members will analyze your submissions to determine if they meet expectations we hold for excellent candidates.

Step 2 – Data Analysis and Curricular Tool submission
Candidates invited to participate in the second step of our rigorous hiring process will submit the following items electronically in ONE Word document to educate@scpcs.org.
  1. Assessment data analysis for one entire classroom of students accompanied by a written narrative that provides background on the assessments, discusses the data and student outcomes.
  2. The submission of any two originally developed and refined curricular tools. Preferred tools are unit plans, exit tickets, guided reading or math lesson plans, student work materials, formative or summative assessments, or standards alignment materials.
Septima Clark recruitment team members will analyze your submissions to identify strengths and growth areas. Exceptional candidates will proceed to Step 3.

Step 3 – 30-minute Phone Interview
Candidates invited to participate in the third step of our rigorous hiring process participate in a 30-minute phone interview based on the materials submitted in Steps 1 and 2.

Exceptional candidates who successfully complete Step 3 are invited the culminating event: full day on-site interview and lesson demonstration.

Step 4 - Full day Interview/Demonstration Lessons
If we determine your skills and experiences are a good fit for the position, you will be invited to teach two standards-based demonstration lessons and share your experiences during in-person interviews with a team of internal and external stakeholders. Your demonstration lessons will take place during the school day in SCPCS classrooms.  During this time you will experience the SCPCS culture, the pace and sense of urgency expected of teachers of boys. Candidates will bring the below items as part of this final step of the interview.

  1. Submission of a portfolio of student work that demonstrates progress of two specific students (preferably a male student two grade levels behind and a male student at grade level or advanced) accompanied by written analysis of the progress each student demonstrates.
